Interpol renews Hernádi arrest warrant

The governing body of Interpol has accepted Croatia’s request to renew the international warrant for the arrest of MOL chairman and CEO Zsolt Hernádi, the Croatian interior ministry announced.

Hernádi has been charged in Croatia with bribing former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader a decade ago to give MOL management rights in Croatian oil company INA.

Hungary and Croatia presented evidence at the weekend meeting of Interpol’s governing body in Dubai, the Croatian Interior Ministry said.

MOL said the Interpol decision was a surprise, as it fails to acknowledge a ruling by a Hungarian court in August rejecting a warrant for Hernádi’s arrest on the grounds that he might not be guaranteed a fair trial in Croatia.

Hernádi has been acquitted of the charge by a Hungarian court.

However, Hernádi’s name was not on Interpol’s list as of Sunday night, Magyar Idők writes.
