Hungarians most obese in Europe

Hungarians are among the most obese nations in Europe, and are in fourth place on a global scale, the Hungarian Obesity Science Council (MET) announced on Wednesday, citing the latest report by the OECD.

More than two-thirds of the adult Hungarian population is grossly overweight or obese, meaning that two out of three adults have minor or major weight problems.

The National Health Insurance Fund Manager spent Ft 207 billion on providing health care services for obese or overweight people, according to 2012 data.

In order to prevent obesity and complications, the MET recommends a varied diet with smaller portions, more exercise and seven to eight hours of sleep.
