Aldi opens five new stores

German retail chain Aldi has opened four new stores outside of Budapest in the last five weeks and will soon open its 137th Hungarian outlet close to Budapest, in Üllő.

The expansion will create 100 jobs. In August, Aldi opened its second unit in Szolnok, and a week later new stores in Kaposvár and Veszprém, followed two weeks ago by a new shop in Enying, near Lake Balaton on main road 64.

Aldi became the first retail chain in Hungary to switch to green energy. It installed a solar farm at its Sopron facility earlier this year and has announced plans for another at its Budaörs facility. The solar farm will have a 50 kWp capacity, reducing the store’s energy needs.
