Work starts on MOL skyscraper

The foundation stone of MOL Campus, the future headquarters tower of the energy company, was laid at the Kopaszi gát in Budapest’s 11th District on Tuesday.

The government offered to allow Hungarian flagship companies MOL, OTP and Richter to erect skyscrapers in the capital taller than the permitted height of 90 metres, but only MOL took this option, Portfolio recalls.

The 28-storey office building will host 2,500 employees when it opens, scheduled for 2021.

MOL chairman and CEO Zsolt Hernádi said at the ceremony that this building represents the changes in position, market power and culture of MOL in the last 20 years.

Portfolio estimates the full cost of the construction at Ft 70 billion.

MKB has 69 branches, down from 73 in the spring of last year.
