Budapest railway bridge to be widened

State infrastructure developer company NIF has announced the tender on widening the southern railway bridge in Budapest, according to the public procurement gazette Közbeszerzési Értesítő.

The EU-financed project to add a third track to the present two is to be completed in two years.

The existing bridge linking Budapest’s Ninth and 11th Districts is the largest bottleneck for rail traffic connecting the eastern and western parts of the city and the country.

Increasing the capacity of the bridge also requires an expansion of the Ferencváros station in the Ninth District, which will be modernised simultaneously from domestic funds.
