West Nile fever implicated in deaths

Hungary’s chief medical officer yesterday announced that West Nile fever may have been a contributing factor in four deaths.

More precise information can only be reported after pathology examinations.

All of those concerned were men who suffered from other chronic diseases. Three of them were over 80 and one in his 30s.

Two persons in Hungary have been struck dead by the West Nile virus, but official data does not show this, according to HVG information.

By the middle of August, 39 cases of the illness were recorded in Hungary.

One person died in Hajdúszoboszló, as reported by the director of the clinic Tamás Varga on his Facebook page on August 10, HVG noticed.

A HVG reader also reported a second West Nile death recently.
