NAV finds irregularities at Lake Balaton

A week-long campaign by tax inspectors to check businesses around Lake Balaton found irregularities at 25% of companies, the tax authority announced on Wednesday.

Tax officials completed nearly 3,000 on-site checks in the middle of July.

The tax authority selected the businesses to be inspected by screening data provided by online cash registers.

If a company appeared to have far lower sales than its peers, then it was certain to be visited by inspectors.

The most frequent violation of the law was that companies did not give receipts to customers and failed to report this income.

Illegal employment of sales and restaurant staff was also common.
