Rules against homeless to be eased

A Fidesz amendment motion passed by Parliament’s legislative committee on Thursday would ease the misdemeanour regulations related to those living on the street.

Accordingly, police will only start misdemeanour proceedings against homeless persons if they refuse police requests to leave the public area three times within 90 days.

A register is to be created of those who have been approached by police.

The motion states that anybody habitually living in a public area is guilty of a misdemeanour.

Under the Basic Law homelessness is forbidden from October 15.
