Munkácsy show a hit in St. Petersburg

An exhibition of works by 19th-century Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy in the Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg has received its 500,000th visitor.

This is an all-time high for any Munkácsy exhibition, making the show the most visited display of Hungarian art outside the country.

The exhibition in the world’s second largest art museum is open for three months, closing at the end of July.

The number of visitors has exceeded expectations, according to museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky.
