Over 40% live in overcrowded homes

An estimated 40.4% of Hungarians live in overcrowded homes, according to recent figures from Eurostat. This is the sixth largest percentage in the EU and around two and a half times the European average.

Romania has the worst figure of 48.4%, followed by Latvia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Poland. In Hungary, only 8.5% of people live in homes that have more rooms than necessary, according to Eurostat.
