Airport closed after damage to runway

Several flights had to be cancelled at Liszt Ferenc International Airport for technical reasons on Thursday and Friday.

The airport was closed at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday for repair work to the second runway.

Wizz Air services from London, Madrid, Larnaca, Tel Aviv, Malaga and Barcelona landed at airports in Vienna, Bratislava and Debrecen, as did a Ryanair service from Bristol. Meanwhile 14 flights landed in Budapest during Thursday night and Friday morning.

The edge of the second runway was damaged by a departing aircraft. This could not be repaired with fast-setting concrete and the airport had to be closed, Budapest Airport spokesman Mihály Hardy said.

Schedules returned to normal after mid- day on Friday.
