Kossuth tér to be closed off earlier

News website 444 has obtained a decision made by Parliament’s Headquarters which states that Kossuth tér will be fully closed off to the public already on Monday evening, May 7.

That is contrary to the official announcement dated April 23, which said that the square in front of the Parliament will be closed off partially from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, the day the new parliament will hold its inaugural session.

444 quoted a decision dated three days later that the cordons will be set up on the evening of May 7, and not only along the outside of the Parliament building and around the grassy areas of the square, but also at the József Attila statue and toward Balassi utca.

An anti-government demonstration is being organised for Tuesday. The group Mi vagyunk a többség (We Are the Majority), which has organised several rallies in recent weeks, is planning to hold a demonstration on Kossuth tér at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Jobbik caucus has announced that it will dismantle the cordons on Kossuth tér.
