Five countries ban Hungarian pork

Serbia and four Asian countries have placed a temporary ban on pork and pork products from Hungary because of the discovery of African swine fever in a wild boar.

Serbia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan also imposed temporary restrictions on Hungarian pork exporters, as one case of an infected animal was detected in Heves county.

Japan has become one of the most important export markets for Hungarian producers, accounting for 25% of their revenues, or €76.2 million annually.

The Hungarian food safety organisation Nebih has ordered the close monitoring of hog farms in Heves county.
