Foreigners brutally overcharged

Detectives have arrested the manager and personnel of a downtown nightclub who have overcharged foreign men, forcing them to pay as much as Ft 225,000 for two glasses of pálinka.

The bar on József Nádor tér had reopened after it was closed earlier for overcharging customers. The establishment was renamed but the manager and employees remained the same.

The manager, a 46-year-old woman, and two employees allegedly committed more crimes between January 2 and March 6, 2018.

Two female employees are suspected of luring in foreign men and then encouraging them to buy drinks. When the guests wanted to leave, they had to pay a considerably higher bill than expected. Employees would accompany the guests to ATMs to withdraw cash or would take their wallets.

The authorities arrested the manager at her home and the two employees at their workplace on April 18.
