LOT to launch long-haul flights from Budapest

Poland’s national airline LOT will launch its first direct transatlantic flight from Budapest to the US from May 3, CEO Rafal Milczarski said on Friday, after the airline’s first Boeing 787-9 landed at Warsaw’s Chopin airport, from Boeing’s Everett plant.

LOT will fly four times a week to New York and twice a week to Chicago from Budapest. LOT will fly Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the routes. Bookings are going well, Milczarski said.

He added that other airlines are also expanding their flights to and from Budapest, which will stimulate the market.

LOT is requesting an air operator certificate in Hungary and plans to set up a Hungarian subsidiary as the company would like Hungarians to think that LOT is not only a Polish, but also a Hungarian firm, the CEO added. LOT also welcomes Hungarians who speak English and could help the firm establish its LOT Hungarian Aviation company, he added.
