More self-employed businesses open

An estimated 70,000 self-employed businesses were founded in Hungary last year, well above the numbers of preceding years, company information provider Opten said on Wednesday.

The number of registered self-employed reached 450,000 last year.

Opten director Richárd Pertics attributed the increase to stricter regulations on companies and the simplified tax system for self-employed persons.

Self-employed persons may opt for the flat KATA tax.

Most self-employed business are micro ventures, but 500 of them each realise annual revenues of more than Ft 300 million.
