Beekeepers to receive support

Hungarian beekeepers will receive a total of Ft 4.7 billion in annual support, with financing shared equally between the EU and the government, said István Nagy, parliamentarian state secretary of the Agriculture Ministry, at the honey and gingerbread festival in Gyula on Saturday.

This amount is more than 15% higher than the sum received in the previous EU budget period.

The honey industry contributes 1% of the total output of the Hungarian agricultural sector and 3% of animal farming.

Concerning bee density, Hungary is the second among the 27 EU member countries.
