Online betting site wins against state

Hungarian authorities acted illegally in banning access to foreign online gaming sites and in fining these companies, Budapest’s State Administration and Labour Court ruled yesterday.

The case was brought by Malta-registered Unibet International, which was banned in 2014 because it did not have a Hungarian licence.

The European Court of Justice found in June that the Hungarian regulation violated the freedom to provide or receive services in an EU country. The Budapest court confirmed this ruling.

Unibet – which has since changed its name to Trannel – was represented by the Jádi Németh law firm.
