Ministry to cut railway e-ticket prices

Online train ticket purchases will become cheaper from December 10 to make them more attractive, the Development Ministry announced on Wednesday.

One out of five passengers buy their tickets electronically, MÁV-Start said.

Customers can print their tickets at home, or at vending machines located at certain railway stations. They can also present the ticket codes received on their mobiles to ticket inspectors.

Tickets picked up at vending machines will be 5% cheaper. Passengers buying and/or printing their tickets at home will receive a 10% discount.

The discount can be as high as 20% for trips outside the peak period and for distances over 100km, the ministry added. An Intercity ticket for the Budapest-Miskolc line outside rush hours could be Ft 800 cheaper, Világgazdaság noted.
