DK launches phone campaign

The Democratic Coalition (DK) has launched a telephone campaign to draw attention to its signature collecting drive.

With the collection of signatures, DK wants to achieve that those who have never lived in Hungary – such as ethnic Hungarians residing in neighbouring countries – should not be permitted to vote in Hungarian elections, executive vice-president Csaba Molnár told a press briefing on Monday.

DK argues that votes from ethnic Hungarians helped Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party to win the previous elections.

DK president Ferenc Gyurcsány provides information in the phone campaign about the purpose of the drive and on how to join it.

DK began its signature collection drive three weeks ago. More than 100,000 people have signed the petition online and long lines of people are queuing up at the stands in the street where they can sign the sheets, Molnár added.
