Over 1 million people see Hungarian films

More than one million people have seen Hungarian films this year and this has not occurred since 2008, Origo said.

This is partly due to the work of the Film Foundation, as one of its main goals is to lure back spectators to the cinemas to view Hungarian films, the website argued.

So far four films have drawn the most spectators: Kincsem, about a famous 19th-century race horse (viewed by 450,000 people), Pappa Pia, which has drawn 208,000, Testrõl és lélekrõl (“Of Body and Soul”) drawing 85,000 and Brazilok (“Brazilians”) which has been seen by 75,000 viewers.

The biggest box office draw may be the film A Viszkis (about the Whisky Robber) that will begin its run on November 23, Origo suggests.
