Opera unions call for strike

Three trade unions have called for a strike at the Hungarian State Opera for October 28, when Huguenots is scheduled to have its premier, due to the absence of a collective agreement. The strike would be held from 5.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The organisers hope that director general Szilveszter Ókovács will sign the collective agreement during the strike but if not, they envisage further strikes.
The Opera management condemned what it called a “trade union diktat”, calling the possible strike unlawful and vowing to challenge it in court.
