National Bank salaries soar

Salary expenses of the MNB monetary council have risen seven-fold in five years, website 24 reports, citing MNB data.

Five years ago the seven members of the council received an annual Ft 64 million in total, while the council – since expanded to nine members – was paid a total of Ft 233 million in the first six months of this year.

Governor György Matolcsy’s salary was raised to Ft 5 million a month, while the previous governor András Simor’s salary was fixed at a monthly Ft 2 million.

Fidesz initially limited state salaries to Ft 2 million when it came to power in 2010, but has since abandoned that policy.
