Mészáros controls largest family business

The wealth accumulated by the Lőrinc Mészáros family exceeds that ever held by a single family in Hungary, having grown five-fold in one year, business magazine Forbes reports.

In addition, the gap between the richest and second-richest families has never been so large. The Mészáros family’s holdings, worth an estimated Ft 353 billion, are worth more than twice as much of those of the second-placed Felcsuti family, at Ft 159 billion.

The key to the growth in the Mészáros family wealth is the close association between Mészáros and his childhood friend Viktor Orbán, Forbes observes.

Some of the larger companies owned by Mészáros are Opus Global, the Talentis Group, Talentis Agro, Status Capital, Konzum Management, Fejér BÁL and Búzakalász 66 Felcsút.

In second place, the family of Zsolt Felcsuti owns FÉG, Widenta, Clarflex, Flexon, Chemicals, MP Meta and MP Rhino.

OTP CEO Sándor Csányi and his family owns Pick Szeged, Sole-Mizo, Bábolna Takarmány, Dalmand, Fiorács, MCS Vágóhíd, KITE and Hungerit, with a total estimated value of Ft 123 billion.
