Swords and pistols drawn in family feud

Two families fought each other with pistols, swords and pitchforks in Ráckeve, south of Budapest, on Thursday night.

An eyewitness told the tabloid Blikk that the trouble started over adulterated drugs.

Deputy mayor Zoltán Vereckei said drug consumption has long been a problem in the town’s Pokolhegy district.

He said the most severely injured person had been stabbed in the head with a pitchfork. Shots were also fired in the fracas.

Police and ambulance staff arrived in large numbers to the site, and Counter-Terrorist Centre agents were called in.

Paramedics provided medical aid to eight lightly injured people and one severely injured person.

Police detained five people after the fighting and are investigating gang-related and other crimes.

A court ordered that one man be remanded in custody.
