Wizz Air to pay Ft 250 million in compensation

Discount airline Wizz Air is to pay around Ft 250 million in compensation to passengers who have used the Wizz Flex service since 2010.

Wizz Air reached an agreement with the competition watchdog GVH, which launched a probe into the service after receiving customer complaints.

The Wizz Flex service allows clients to modify bookings on the company’s website up to three hours prior to the scheduled departure time. In case of changing the date, timing or routing of the flight, no change fees are charged. However, if the new flight is being sold at a higher fare, the difference in fares must be paid, according to the company’s website.

The GVH found that details of the service were not properly disclosed, and that it was not possible to change the return route after departures.

Wizz Air offered to co-operate with GVH and agreed to pay an average €8.3 compensation to around 120,000-220,000 customers. In addition, the company is changing its information practices for Wizz Flex.
