Red Cross helps storm victims

The Hungarian Red Cross is giving out food, sanitary packages and building materials to the victims of recent extreme storms in Szabolcs county, it was announced on Thursday.

The International Red Cross has provided SFr 230,000 from its aid fund, which enables the Hungarian office to help 7,200 victims from 2,400 families.

The severe rain at the end of June caused great damage in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, destroying the roofs of about 2,500 buildings and forcing 30 families to leave their homes.

Red Cross workers and volunteers are in the area, clearing roads and clearing debris.
