Hungary to host Fed Cup tournaments over 3 years



Budapest will be the first city to host the women’s world team tennis Fed Cup tournament in its new format next year, it was announced at London’s Queen’s Tennis Club on Thursday.

Under the new format, 12 teams will vie for the world title on clay courts over five days.

Budapest will also host the tournament in 2021 and 2022.

Moscow, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Prague and Chicago had all bid to host the event.

The 2020 finals will be held at the Papp László Budapest Sportarena on April 14-19 while from 2021 a new, 20,000 capacity multifunctional sports hall will host the event.

The Hungarian national team will be playing in the finals as it is the host nation.
