Continental dismissing employees

ContiTech Fluid Automotive Hungária yesterday confirmed reports that it has been dismissing staff from its factory in Makó.

The car parts making subsidiary of Continental said it had begun “a small-scale correction” in the number of its staff, due to global automotive industry trends.

No large-scale dismissal, which would have to be reported to authorities, is planned, the company added.

Last week 40-50 employees were laid off and more than ten yesterday, an employee speaking on condition of anonymity told website Napi.

The source said employees are worried that as many as 400 of them may be dismissed.

One worker was told about his immediate dismissal upon arriving for the afternoon shift, the source added.

Continental began production in Makó in 1995, making heating and cooling tubes.

It is the largest employer in the town, with 2,300 workers.
