Chinese to reopen Zalaegerszeg hotel

The four-star Hotel Balaton in downtown Zalaegerszeg will reopen in the fall, after Chinese backers complete a Ft 1 billion investment, mayor Zoltán Balaicz announced on Friday.

A bank took ownership of the building in 2010, after the operator ran into financial difficulties, and it has been closed ever since.

A Chinese family bought the facility in 2017 and will turn it into the four-star Willis Hotel, with 64 rooms, a wellness centre and a conference room, capable of seating several hundred people.

Demand for new accommodation in the city is rising due to new investments in the region Balaicz said, highlighting the ongoing construction nearby of a test track for self-driving cars.
