ELTE dismissing dozens of teachers

Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) has denied that it is facing financial problems following reports that a large number of instructors are to be dismissed.

The university declared that its financial situation and operations are stable.

The teachers association Oktatói Hálózat reported earlier that 50-70 instructors are being dismissed from the university, most by forced retirement and the rest by finding obscure requirements that they cannot meet.

ELTE said optimisation projects are under way at the faculties of humanities and the natural sciences, adding that dismissals are part of the adjustment.

In most of the cases teachers above retirement age will retire, ELTE added.
