Gov’t to gauge bicycle traffic

The government will spend Ft 150 billion on developing bicycle lanes in the next four years, government commissioner Máriusz Révész announced in Budapest.

Bicycle traffic outside of Budapest has not been monitored, to date, but the government plans to install traffic monitoring devices in 19 locations.

The data recorded by the devices will be published online, said CEO József Attila Szilvai of state road maintenance company Magyar Közút.

The 19 bicycle traffic recorders are owned by Magyar Közút and cost Ft 15 million, Szilvai said, adding that a further 32 will be installed next year.
