Gov’t ups funds for energy efficiency programme

The government has expanded the funds available for the replacement of energy-efficient household appliances from Ft 2 billion to Ft 5 billion, Innovation and Technology Ministry state secretary Balázs Weingartner announced at a press conference.

The ministry offers non-refundable financial support to households to replace old washing machines, refrigerators and freezers, to help lower utility bills.

For the most energy-efficient appliances, households are eligible to receive Ft 40,000-45,000.

Since the launch of the program in 2014, the country’s annual energy savings have totalled 270 million kWh per year, which is the annual consumption of 80,000 households, Weingartner added.
