Fire destroys DK offices

The Democratic Coalition’s main offices on Teréz körút in Budapest were completely wiped out in a fire on Saturday.

“The roof fell in, walls collapsed, equipment was burned, the offices of the Democratic Coalition were destroyed. The material damage is considerable but no one was injured,” said party spokesman Sándor Rónai.

On Sunday morning party president Ferenc Gyurcsány wrote on Facebook “we are moving on, the resistance continues”.

The Socialist Party expressed its sympathy to “the entire political community of the Democratic Coalition for the terrible losses incurred by the party”.

Budapest party chapter president Zsolt Molnár wrote “if necessary, our offices are open to them”.

Dialogue also ensured the Democratic Coalition of its solidarity and offered its help.

The Liberal party said the Democratic Coalition could use its office on nearby Aradi utca.
