Red Cross to open Budapest café

The Hungarian Red Cross will open its Empathy Café & Bistro on the first floor of its headquarters building on August 6, the organisation announced on Wednesday.

Among others, Google provided financial resources for the transformation of the office on Arany János utca in Budapest’s Fifth District.

The coffee comes from the farm of László Bányai in Costa Rica and is roasted by Kávé Háza in Szekszárd.

The café follows strict environmental standards and will donate any leftover food to homeless people with the help of the Budapest Bike Maffia.

About 100 prominent personalities offered books with handwritten recommendations to café goers.

Sources regularly consulted, with abbreviations used in text: Népszabadság (N); Magyar Hírlap (MH); Világgazdaság (VG); Napi Gazdaság (NG); Magyar Nemzet (MN); Népszava (Nsz); Kossuth Rádió news (KR); nightly TV news (TV).
