7,300 swim across Lake Balaton

A total of 7,309 people entered Lake Balaton on Saturday morning to swim the 5.2 kilometres between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár in the 36th annual swim across the lake.

Record holder Márk Papp crossed the lake in 1 hour and 26 seconds. He had been preparing to set a new record but could not improve on his 2016 time of 58 minutes 33 seconds, partly because he swam without a team this year.

Among the women Armenta Fernanda of Mexico covered the distance the fastest, within 1 hour and 17 minutes.

The oldest swimmer was 82-year-old Elemér Bucsányi and the oldest woman 80-year-old Zsuzsanna Kertész. The former crossed the lake for the 13th time, the latter for the 11th.
