EU gives €470mn for M3 upgrade

The European Commission will provide €473.4 million from its cohesion fund for the renewal of the M3 subway line in Budapest, commissioner for regional policy Corina Cretu announced on Tuesday.

The renewal will improve public transport for over 500,000 passengers daily, including residents and tourists, Cretu said.

All 20 stations along the line and the entire lighting system will be upgraded. All stations will be wheelchair accessible. The subsidy will also cover the replacement of track.
