State fines may destroy Jobbik

Jobbik might go bankrupt and fold under the weight of fines imposed upon it by state bodies which have ruled that the party violated campaign financing laws, Index reported.

The cessation of the party depends on whether the State Treasury grants it the opportunity to pay off its debts in instalments or not, Index writes, adding that Jobbik has initiated consultations with the Treasury on this possibility, although there is no news of what was the result.

The Treasury indicated a week ago that it would not grant the party any chance to pay off the debts by instalment.

Jobbik has no funds to pay for its European Parliament election campaign, Index notes.

Vice-president János Volner admitted on Friday that the party has no money, and said the party awaits donations. But, he added, a long road leads to bankruptcy.
