Search for thermal water near Szabadság tér

The Fifth District council is having a well drilled near Szabadság tér at a cost of Ft 198 million in a search for thermal water.

News website 24 says drilling has begun on land between Hold utca and Vadász utca and so far has reached a depth of 800 metres.

Vadász utca has been closed to vehicle traffic for months because of the ongoing drilling.

Attila Siroki, head of the district asset manager, said the purpose of the project is to establish a thermal water well which can provide water at the proper pressure that may at least be suitable for bathing water.

A downtown sports centre is to be built on Vadász utca but the well drilling is not part of the project, he said.

Siroki says the thermal water will be used by the sports centre but it is conceivable that property developments planned in the immediate neighbourhood can have access to it.
