Lázár denies state interest in Telenor

The cabinet has not discussed the possibility of buying Telenor’s Hungarian operations, Prime Minister’s Office leader János Lázár told his Thursday press conference.

He said he is not aware that the government would support such a purchase.

The Norwegian telecoms company’s announcement that it had received an unsolicited offer for its Eastern European operations gave rise to speculation that the government would take the opportunity to establish a state-owned mobile phone operator.

Konzum, an interest of Felcsút mayor Lőrincz Mészáros, indicated that it would like to invest in the telecoms sector.
