Protesters’ tents set alight

An unidentified person set the tents of Liget activists on fire after midnight Monday, the City Park campaigners announced on their website on Tuesday.

The fire was lit at one of three tent camps set up by the group as part of their effort to prevent construction works in the park.

Liget member Nikoletta Antal said four people and two cats were in the camp at the time. Nobody was injured but all the tents and equipment was destroyed, causing damage estimated at hundreds of thousands of forints.

An unidentified perpetrator set another Liget camp on fire in August.

The activists have been attacked many times during their two years of camping in the City Park in protest against the felling of trees and the start of construction projects.
