Party district referendum ahead

The Seventh District council voted yesterday to stage a local referendum on restricting the opening hours of restaurants, bars and cafés in the area known as the Party District.

Residents organised protest marches in the summer against the noise on the streets at nights, disturbing their sleep.

In order to address problems in the heavily touristed nightlife zone, the district will renew its public toilets and install new ones, and waste collection will be more frequent.

In addition, the council will impose a ban on opening bars or restaurants in premises owned by the district.
