MFB ousts ITD Hungary management

The entire management of investment promotion agency ITD Hungary was dismissed without warning yesterday.

The state development bank MFB, which was granted the right to oversee the agency by a recent amendment, carried out a transfer of power at ITD Hungary, MFB spokesman János Nyiri said. A news blackout has been ordered.

The “MFB squad” as newspapers refer to it, confiscated the company cars, mobile phones and laptops of ITD Hungary executives. Mariann Tóth Dené was installed as the new head of the agency.

The action is similar to that carried out two weeks ago when MFB personnel removed the presidents and top executives of the state infrastructure company the NIF and state motorway manager ÁAK, among others, also without warning. The new government had earlier transferred authority over these companies to the MFB.

Yesterday’s coup may spark conflict between the National Development Ministry, which oversees the MFB, and the Economy Ministry, which had supervised the operations of ITD Hungary until recently, Napi Gazdaság observes.

The MFB also raided the offices of stud farms Mezőhegyesi Állami Ménes and Bábolna Nemzeti Ménes and the headquarters of more than 22 state-owned forestries, dismissing the leaders of all those companies on the spot and putting successors in place.
