Skinheads attack Gay Pride participants

Youths wearing far-right badges attacked a guest at the opening of the Gay Pride festival in Budapest Sunday evening.

A dozen neo-Nazis showed up outside the Művész cinema, where the festival opened.

Police prevented them from taking down a flag but two far-right teenagers later struck a man on his way home from the festival in a nearby side street.

A shaven-headed man also attacked a tourist wearing a rose T-shirt nearby.

Budapest Pride board of trustees chairman Sándor Steigler told Népszabadság that another round of consultations has been held between the organisers and the police “so that they pay more attention to securing the festival venues”.
