Jászai to reposition Zsolnay

City-owned Pécs Holding yesterday signed a sales contract for a 49% stake in city-owned porcelain manufacture Zsolnay Porcelán Manufaktúra to Manufaktúra-Befektető (M-B).

M-B, which is owned by Gellért Jászai, pays Ft 230 million and is obliged to make a further capital injection of Ft 500 million.

With the deal Zsolnay solves its financial problems and if the relationship with the new investor develops well then the city will reduce its stake to 10%, Fidesz mayor of Pécs Zsolt Páva said.

The repositioning can begin without expansion as there are unutilised capacity and workspace at Zsolnay, Jászai said.

Synergies with property investments of SCD, a company majority-owned by Jászai, will also be utilised but SCD is not seeking to keep Zsolnay afloat, he added.

Initially, investment will be made in Zsolnay’s marketing. M-B will complete its audit of Zsolnay by the end of August.

M-B aims to revitalise Zsolnay’s the previously successful production of ceramics for building, as well as hand painted porcelain.

It now seems the reorganisation will not mean dismissals, but new hires, he underlined.
